The ‘You. Me. 6 Weeks’ Foster Program is the cornerstone of Greyhound Adoption Program South Australia.
Our Foster Carers take recently retired greyhounds into their home for a period of approximately 6 weeks to help them transition into a more domesticated setting and life as a pet. The goal is for them to achieve their green collar meaning they are ready to be adopted to their forever home.
GAP SA are always on the lookout for more Foster Carers to help us and by partnering with Little Heroes we have an an exciting opportunity to find new recruits and help raise much needed funds for the Little Heroes Foundation!

WHY BECOME A FOSTER CARER?
Foster caring is a great option for those who cannot or do not wish to have a dog full time or for those who just love extra canine company!
The foster process is as follows:
WE WILL MATCH YOU WITH A GREYHOUND
We consider your current circumstances such as what other pets you may have, children, how much time alone the greyhound might spend and match you with a greyhound we think will go well with you.
*Some circumstances, such as owning a cat, may create a longer wait for a suitable greyhound to become available.
WE SUPPLY YOU WITH ALL THE ESSENTIALS YOU NEED
Food, bed, coat, lead, collar – everything you need to be a successful foster carer is supplied FREE to you!
WHAT’S REQUIRED FROM YOU?
You will need to supply a loving home for the foster care period, and help them to make the adjustment as they transition into domestic life and give them the best opportunity to pass their Green Collar Assessment.
Depending on your circumstances we can generally have a greyhound placed with you within approximately 2 weeks. Once your greyhound has passed the Green Collar Assessment it will generally take 1-2 weeks of matching to find your new canine ‘graduate’ their forever home!
